ROBERT TRENT JONES JR. TRAIL

Robert Trent Jones Jr. has designed three golf courses in Italy: Terre dei Consoli, Antognolla and La Bagnaia. Fortunately enough, these courses are all in Central Italy only a little over one hour -drive one from another. You have a unique opportunity to play them all and to live Robert Trent Jones Jr's design philosophy and style.

Known as the father of environmental golf course design, in his well-loved courses Jones respects and embraces the land. His sensitivity and responsibility towards the environment are essential aspects of every project, and so is the conservation of precious resources, particularly water.

He presents golfers with a blend of penal, strategic, and heroic golf puzzles that it is up to each golfer to solve for him- or herself—often by determining the best position from which to attack the holes.

RTJ Jr. Trail also leads you through three beautiful Italian regions: Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany.

Tuscany

This itinerary is an opportunity to admire beautiful Italian landscapes with postcard views and to play quality golf.

Nevertheless, if you wish, you can visit fascinating towns each with its own characteristics and an exciting mixture of traditions and modernity.

Arriving at the airport in Rome doesn't mean that you have to pass through the city. The first destination is Terre dei Consoli Golf Club, about 50 km north of Rome. The accommodation is at a 10 -minute drive in a 4* -hotel next to Sutri, where you can go for a typical Italian dinner or a walk. Worth visiting is also Bracciano with its castle and the volcanic lake only at a 10 -minute drive from Terre dei Consoli.

After two nights and rounds of golf, the journey continues to the Umbria region and Antognolla Golf Club. Accommodation is at an estate at a short distance from the golf club or in a nearby castle, renovated into a 4* hotel, or in a hotel in Perugia.

The ancient town centre of Perugia is closed to traffic and very welcoming with its fascinating Medieval and Renaissance architecture. There are other Umbrian towns nearby, each conserving characteristic arts and crafts. Assisi is a spiritual centre as the home town of Francis of Assisi.

It takes a little less than one-hour-and-a-half to drive from Umbria to La Bagnaia Golf & Spa Resort. But, you might like to stop along the way to visit Val d'Orcia to admire the typically Tuscan landscapes and colours of striking beauty or stop to Montalcino, famous for the red wine, and the city of Pienza built according to the Renaissance ideals of the perfect city.

Following the itinerary in the direction of Siena, you arrive at the 5* La Bagnaia Golf & Spa Resort, part of the Hilton Curio Collection, a carefully renovated farming village transformed into a resort. There are two hotels: Borgo Bagnaia near the golf course and Borgo La Filetta next to the spa.

The 18 -hole golf course Royal Golf La Bagnaia has been designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.

Only 15 km from Siena offers many opportunities to visit the historical city.
