In Sicily, two golf resorts are located on the east coast.
Il Picciolo Etna Golf & Spa, 4-star, 18-hole par 72 5870 m, 40 minutes (50 km) northwest of Catania and, at a short driving distance, the Etna National Park. Etna is an active volcano whose smoke and frequent eruptions are an impressive sight and dominate the panorama of Catania. You can take a tour to the slopes independently, with a volcanologist or in a guided jeep safari. Nearby is the famous Taormina and the beautiful Mediterranean Sea with its small beach villages where to enjoy tasty Sicilian cuisine.
Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & Spa, 5 stars, 18-hole golf course par. 71, near Syracuse about 1.5 hours drive from Il Picciolo. I Monasteri is located a few kilometres from the historic city of Syracuse and its romantic Ortigia island.
You can also visit the fishing village of Marzamemi, famous for tuna fishing and tuna products in various forms, and the village of Pachino, named after the Pachino cherry tomatoes. Inland are the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Noto, Scicli, Ragusa and Ibla, which represent the most typical Sicilian Baroque.
An hour’s drive from the Baroque area is Caltagirone, famous for its colourful pottery, and the Roman villa Villa Romana del Casale, known for its magnificent original mosaics.
Sicily produces high-quality wines with a taste of volcanic soil and sunshine.
